Re: Fertilizer help?
All I know is that's what they went to later in the years but the ones I've seen for the Cubs is round but I say there be few smart people that will chime in. You still get old style look for cub planter at Wenger there steel and lid and looks real good. I've seen the square one on the 140.

Re: Fertilizer help?
That hopper is a bit of an enigma. It is petty easy to find pictures of it in advertising brochures etc. but nearly impossible to find in a parts catalog. I think it came along as an option where the round one was regular equipment. The square shape kept it from getting any wider than the round one. A bigger round hopper would have limited how narrow multiple row planters could be set up.
The earlier style fertilizer hoppers were pretty common on early Cubs. You can easily find that hopper in multiple implement parts catalogs. It was rated for 65 pounds. The later style can be found in CBI-2 and beyond. The later style fertilizer units usually have the round fibre glass (IH's spelling) hopper. This was rated for 115 pounds. It is in dozens of parts catalogs but without the square hopper. The round fibre glass hopper is 625 017 R2 with a lid 625 016 R2. There was also a galvanized hopper, 625 286 R91 that fits the same base and appears to use the same lid. It is listed as either 110 or 115 pound capacity.
I eventually found all three hoppers listed with the later style unit on some 4 and 6 row planters that shared one section of the Fertilizer Units catalog (FU-1). It gave the hopper as 462 554 R1 and the lid 462 555 R1, 170 pound capacity. From there, I could find it online. I hope this link works. If it doesn't, go to the CaseIH partsstore and search for "fertilizer units". Select "(DRY) - FERTILIZER UNIT (4-ROW) (1/66-)" then go to A-120 (on page 3).
