Rust occupies about 11 times the space of the iron from which the rust was formed. Wedges things really tight. A 140 Farmall had one side of the front axle stuck. Removed the assembly from the tractor. Chained one end to a tree and the center pivot to a come-a-long. Pulled full tension. Heated the outer tube until the paint started to blister. Tapped all around on the tube with 16 ounce ball pein hammer while the tube cooled. Retighten the come-a-long. Repeated the process 4 times before it moved about 1/8". Spray penetrant generously. Heat and pein again, about another 1/8" movement. Then with block of oak and an 8 pound hammer, drive the tube back in just a little. More penetrant and the come-a-long pulled it apart.
No damage except to the paint.

Yep, went through the same thing on my 66 Cub. Axles were STUCK good! I stood the axle up on end and sprayed generously with Kroil for a weekend. Went out on a Tuesday or Wednesday and rigged up a set of hydraulic jacks and blocks, and she came apart with just a little effort. I couldn't believe how much rust was in that axle assembly and Kroil is just AMAZING!!!! The Kroil had literally soaked through almost every bit of rust in the axle, and I'm certain that it did it's job.

If I have to take the front axel off where do you put the jack stands on front of tractor?

Do you have access to an engine hoist?

Jack it up directly on the bellhousing casting. It looks precarious, but it works just fine. I actually jacked mine up under the front bolster, then used jack stands on the sides of the torque tube/engine and a 4x4 across them, under the bellhousing, to rest the tractor back down while removing the axle. Also, lock the brakes and/or put the tractor in gear and block the rear tires before you jack it up.

I think I will loaded it up and take to a friend of mine. He has a tractor with a loader that will pick it up. He has a spreader and strap

That will work. Follow Bill's advice on chocks or brakes. And put something sturdy under the Cub while the axle is off, in case the loader hydraulics bleed down.

When I narrowed up the front axle on my '53, I put a pipe wrench on the axle and twisted to get them loose. Removed the tierod first, of course.

One came easy. The other, not so much.

Here's what happens when you put a 6ft cheater bar on an 18" pipe wrench and nothing moves:

I heated the outer axle tube with my oxy-acetylene setup and got the second one loose on the second attempt with the wrench.

Once out, I cleaned both inside the tube and outside the knee with wire wheels. Then I slathered the knee with never-seez before sliding it back in.

I had a 24" pipe wrench that looked like that.
