Governor removal
Before I send my motor out to be rebuilt, I am removing the governor. I have one bolt remaining and it has the original wire securing it in position. I wanted to check with a few "Pro's" to make sure I am okay to cut this wire and remove the bolt. Any other precautions that I should know about? I assume once this last bolt is out, the housing can be tapped off and the rest will slide out.

Re: Governor removal
The safety wire is actually to make sure no one has changed the rpm limiter adjustment (bolt with the lock nut) when it was brought in for warranty, so yes, it is safe to remove it unless you have a VERY extended warranty. In my 30+ years of tinkering with cubs I have only seen one that still had the wire on it and I have seen a lot of cubs in that time.

Re: Governor removal
John, I have one with the safety wire still intact was working on it last night and noticed it. I am glad to know the reason it was placed there by the factory.

Re: Governor removal
I'll ask around, but I doubt if my Grandpa purchased that big of a warranty. Thanks for the info. It's fun doing a project where you know the whole history of the tractor.

Could have been replaced by an authorized dealer after doing repairs.Bezirk wrote:...... I am glad to know the reason it was placed there by the factory.......
