Re: Restoration Project - Four digit Cub
For those that have never put a rear tractor tire on it's really not that bad. Main thing is be careful not to pinch or puncture the tube. I spray inside and outside the tire where contact with the wheel will be with WD-40 to make it easier. I use 2-4"X4" blocks under it to put the tube in after getting one side of the tire on. I also use a fancy tire putter onner tool, other people call it a screwdriver.

Sometime, when my wife works full time and I quit my day job.....(yea, who am I kidding), ok, when I win the lottery..... (guess I better start playing), I'm going to find someone with a shop like yours and just offer to work for free so I can learn how to do that kind of stuff. I'm pretty good with a metal lathe, but that's about the extent of my "milling" experience. Again, VERY nice work and keep the photos/posts coming. Can't wait to see this all coming together.

I probably won't restore it just put 4 new tires on it and get all the leaks stopped and in good running order.
Hah! So much for that. You're doing amazing work.

I thought "restore" means new paint and decals?
It will probably be years before it gets red paint and new decals.

Oops! You mounted the tires on backwards...
...just kidding. Made you look. At the rate you're going, it won't be THAT long before you're shooting red paint. Keep it up!

It will be a while before I shoot the red. 1 reason I have no where to lay all the parts out, 2 is time. Everything I am doing now I am doing at work, yes I am getting paid to work on my own stuff. Hate me if you want to, lol. As long as I keep the mill running my boss doesn't care what I do. He says "it ain't earning if the spindle ain't turning". Oh back to red, my shop at home is small and full, I have a 730 John Deere diesel sitting in it right now with a fan shaft not turning, got the hood off and that's as far as I got there and it's been a month since it happened. We have 2 young kids and I try my best to spend time with them when I get home. A man told me years ago "when your kids are small your to busy to spend time with them, when their grown they're to busy to spend time with you" <that is the truth. I don't want to look back in 20 years and think how much I missed in my kids lives because I was doing something else. If I can do it at work I don't feel so bad. Our son is 4 and he loves tractors and loves helping me work on anything. Our daughter is 9 months old and growing up fast. I love to work hard here but I love to go home and hold her and watch her crawl/pull up on stuff and play with him more. I'll be 41 next week and don't want to miss anything with my wife & kids. The one thing you can't buy is time.

Is your company hiring? If word gets out, I think there will be 11522 applicants interested in applying.

That's the other awesome thing, there is only me and 1 other guy out in the shop. I been here 21 years next month and he isn't far behind!

Turned a little more on the brake drums. Got counterbore on back side and started on front for the angle where bolt goes.

Brake drums are almost complete. Just got to drill & tap the hole for set screw.
