I'd like to thank everyone for the copper fuel line thoughts and advice and special thanks to Jim Becker for bringing it to my attention. Went to the auto parts store and got a piece of steel brake line and some ferules and made a steel fuel line (made 2 actually, 1 for the '49). I even put it on the outside of the choke rod so the police will be happy, don't look at those hose clamps! My carb was stripped out and had to retap it with a 1/4" NPT tap to get some threads in it is why there is an extra fitting and I had to use a ferule in case anyone is wondering. Oh and I ask the guy at the parts store what his dads name is that owned this Cub and it's Arnold so that's what this tractor will be called, Arnold.

That's what I thought it looked like. So then what are you planning on using for the top coat?

Thanks!

Not sure yet but it will be car type paint with hardener and such. I will talk to the guy who mixes paint at the parts store when the time comes. I've never had good luck with tractor paint from anywhere. It fades to quickly and is not durable at all.

Thanks for taking the time to document your project; it has been a true joy watching your progress. Like many on this Forum, you have a great talent and your willingness to share is what makes this Forum so great! In addition to your mechanical and machining skills, you are also quite skilled at listening and humility.

Thanks again,
David

Okay I realized that first steel gas line was just ugly so I made another one and got it away from the manifold and made it look a little closer to original. Thanks Ricky for the photo of yours as a reference!

I assume you know that you need a space suit and a fresh air breathing system to use hardener. I won't repeat the details unless you have some question about it.

How much disassembly are you planning before painting? Even if you are going to do it assembled, you should remove the master lift unit and front rockshaft, in case you decide later on to remove them.

I was thinking that but I would have never said it. Guess its ok now that you made it nice and neat.
Nice job really! :hattip:

Yeah I know protection has to be used with paint, none of it is good for any part of your body! When I do get to paint this tractor I will take off pretty much everything I can. It will be a while because I have nowhere to do that right now or the time with 2 small kids and owning our own business and working full time in a machine shop. We are trying to sell our business and house and move to somewhere with more land and hopefully a shop. So when that time comes it will get taken apart and painted right, thank you Jim for all your help and sharing your knowledge. You have probably forgotten more than I will ever know.

Honestly I'm in no position to bust chops, your way ahead of me on your restoration. Great job!
I'll use it as motivation for mine.
