Switch was tight but got it apart and cleaned up without messing anything up.

Probably a lot more than you paid for yours (or me). I like buying lights by the crate at farm auctions and then find a combo light tucked away in the bottom. Like icing on the cake...

did you use a rotary wire brush on the sheet metal of the light to remove the paint?
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I'm looking forward to seeing how you turn a new stainless ring on the lathe.

Hi,
TM Tractor has listings for the ring and rubber for a regular first style headlight.
The Cub parts book says the 2 parts are the same part numbers for it and the light you have.
The pages are below so you can look at it, see if it's what you want.

I did, a wire brush on a bench grinder.

Yeah I figured they were a little more than the $20 I paid for this one!

Luckily I had a ring and a gasket off another Guide light from working on all the 2 cylinder John Deere's over the years. I will get a new gasket at a show sometime in the near future.

Re: Restoration Project - Four digit Cub
I don't buy rubber gaskets for lights. They're free. Usually find them filed away in the trash can right outside the O'Reilly's Auto Parts store.
Take a discarded windshield wiper blade, remove the rubber wiper from the frame, then cut or separate the triangular rubber edge AND the first flat portion that supports it from the rest of the rubber body. Use triangular portion; discard back-body. Cut length to fit around light housing. Done. Free light gasket.
I appreciate O'Reilly's having a never-ending supply.

Re: Restoration Project - Four digit Cub
I was digging through the old bolt pile of the toolbox off this tractor a few minutes ago and found the original knob for the hand lift. Here's the one that was on it and the one I made and the one I found.

Fire in the hole! The original knob still had some chrome on it so I painted it silver.
