First time on farmall cub from NH

Postby Phbradley » Fri Apr 01, 2016 4:27 pm

I have a 48 that is finally running again. I have one question. I want to take my hydraulic unit off until I can get it fixed. How do I close off the connection where the tubbing for the fluid goes to the unit so that I can continue to run the tractor? If this isn't the right spot for the question please point me to the right one..

I think you would need to remove the lines from the TC to the Hyd pump, then the pump and place a cover over each one. You don't need to run the pump without fluid circulating through it. Check forum sponsor TM tractor, I think they have the cover for sale, if not you can make one from 1/16 metal plate and use a rubber gasket for a seal. Check the manuals link at the top of this page for more information. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum. Lots of good information available. Posting specific questions on the FARMALL CUB forum will get you more answers/readers. Stan

Tx Stan. I thought perhaps I could make one. Just didn't want it to cause problem. It's been sitting for a couple years after I bought it. Got it running last week. Needless to say I'm excited...Phil

Hi,
Welcome to the website. The Cub owner's manual says do not run the engine without enough fluid in the Touch Control system. It will damage the pump with no fluid in the system. The pump will get dry of fluid if left with none in it.
After you have the Touch Control repaired, and on the tractor, you have to fill it and get the air out of it. The 1st page below tells how. Be sure to do what it says in paragraph 4 to get the air out.
The 2nd one below is the cover they used with no pump, from TM Tractor. :)
