Yesterdays Haul
Spending too much time on Craigslist can be unhealthy for your wallet. Case in point, while cursing on Craigslist I happened to run across an ad in an area of the state of Michigan that I don't normally check. It was an ad for 2 Cubs that needed some TLC but what caught my eye was not a picture but in the text it mentioned some sort of speed reducer. I contacted the seller and asked for some more pictures and sure enough, it was a Howard Rotovator Despeeder. The additional pictures also revealed a tachometer on one of the Cubs.
The Cubs came with 2 mower decks and an older Cub 54 Leveling and Grader blade. In the picture below you can see the disassembled Cub 54 blade in the back of my truck with the muffler that fell off of my truck on the way to pick up the Cubs. It was fun laying under the truck alongside I-94 removing the muffler and tailpipe that started dragging on the pavement.
The Despeeder will go on ebay most likely and the tachometer may end up on my Cub just because it's kind of cool.

Old clothes won't be a problem, that's all I own! I won't have a lot of time to help (honey do list) while on vacation so I'll send my helper up, he's not much help but he can hold a flash light.

Great haul!
What is the shaft below the PTO (with the chain sprocket) for?
Looks like you got your mileage out of the muffler!

What is the shaft below the PTO (with the chain sprocket) for? Your guess is as good as mine. It's just a short stub shaft. Hard telling what the PO used it for.
Looks like you got your mileage out of the muffler! Ya think so!!??

Nice find, Ricky. My first tach came on an old rusty Cub 10 years ago. It's my "go to" tractor.

Re: Yesterdays Haul
I think a little muffler tape bandage and it goes back on! No sense spending money on a new one when you can spend it on the Cubs.

I was hoping to get another month or so out of it, waiting for warmer weather when I could start riding my bike to work. That way I could take my time and swap out the exhaust system and not have to worry about having to get it done before I had to drive it to work the next morning. Of course that this spring is going, It might be August before it's warm enough to ride the bike again....
