6 or 12 Volts, 1974 IH Cub

Postby SteveOneal » Thu Apr 14, 2016 11:57 am

I'm trying to find a battery for a tractor I recently acquired. I just purchased a property that included a 1974 International Cub tractor, identified by the serial number. I'm completely new to tractors, so please take it easy on me.

I was told the tractor was running last year, but the battery was removed and disposed of. The coil looks like it's been replaced recently and the wiring looks pieced together and new, also gauges appear to be stock.

Is there any other clues to determine the voltage of the system, either 6 or 12 volts?

thanks in advance for any help.

Should be 12 volt generator. I doubt that anyone would change from 12 volts to 6 volts, but you never know.

Alternator, 12 volts.
Generator, 6 or 12 volts. Black ID tag on generator 6 volts. Red tag 12 volts.
Ballast resistor in wire to ignition coil or from ignition coil to distributor, 12 volts.
Coil, if you can read the id, internal resistor, 12 volts.
I have an excuse. CRS.
