Drop it down or Extra Rise for Exhaust mod?

Postby farmergiffIV » Thu May 05, 2016 1:47 am

Hey there, I have always ran my cub with a stupid long extra exhaust extender so the fumes rise clearly 3 feet over my head while driving... I was wondering though if anyone else has exhaust mods, I'd also like to consider a drop down style that sends the exhaust behind me instead but it seems hard to do with the hydraulics and all. Any thoughts?

The OEM underslung exhaust parts should fit OK without any mods. The hardest part will probably be getting the nipple out of the manifold. Of course this will leave the exhaust hole in the hood unused so people can ask you why is there an extra hole in the hood. Stan

I believe the hole would be a small price to pay to have the noise and exhaust behind you. I have an 18' pipe on my cub to clear trees, but have to ware hearing protection.

It's any "easy" switch to the underslung exhaust. You need the elbow for the exhaust manifold, and the bracket and u-bolt that attaches to the front transmission bolts, in addition to the exhaust pipe and muffler. You will also need to make a new fuel line if using the steel line, or if using the rubber line, you will need to ensure it is not routed next to the exhaust pipe.

Make sure things aren't rubbing: hydraulic lines, choke and touch control rods, etc. Also the bolt heads where the hyd manifold lines attach at the touch control block behind the exhaust pipe.

You can either leave the hole for the vertical exhaust, or if you are a decent welder, you can patch it.

Hi,
Here is a page from the cub parts book showing the under axle exhaust system. They came out in late 1954.
Also a page from the cub owner's manual showing the exhaust system on the tractor. :)
