Govenor spring

Postby Dusty B » Fri May 13, 2016 8:39 pm

I know this has been hashed before - but before I skin up more knuckles and get more bruises are there any tips other than clipping the tips of the spring for easier hooking?? '59 lobby w/hood ON!! already lost a few patches of skin replacing the spark plugs w/hood on! Really want to avoid pulling the hood! Thanks, Dusty B

The easiest way to hook the spring is to invite your buddy over  , you know the one, the guy who thinks he can do anything. Tell him it can't be done or the he can't do it and stand back. Keep handing him band-aids uuntil he's done.

I had been concerned or reluctant about removing the tank/hood, but for the wrong reasons. It is easy to get off and on. The big problem is once it is off there becomes a whole new list of projects that "make sense now that the hood is off". Project creep!

Just plain RAW!!! luckily switched tractors so I could put it in the shed where I had some heat! Trimmed the tips of the spring w/dremel tool and it actually went on fairly easily ( only about 45 min.) Now just have to wait and see if I trimmed it too much and it falls off when I'm using it!! At least I didn't have to pull the hood to get it on. w/get over your way when the weather warms up Sonny! Dusty B

Would a weak governor spring make your engine go faster without moving throttle. Mine will idle but as soon as I give it some gas it keeps getting faster till it's wide open.
