Do you mean the sort of "Y" shaped thing on the tractor that I have the linkage bolted to?
I can check.

I was wondering if this might work.
There is a short piece in the middle of the linkage.
If I eliminated that, I could get a lot more lift.
Maybe too much.
But that still wouldn't make the nose lower than the back of the deck

Yes, again I am new to the whole cub thing but that would be where I would look first not knowing much. The linkage looks correct from all the photos I have seen and you said it worked on the other guys tractor, so I would start where it connects to your tractor. Just my $0.02 and I have a beer in my hand so easy for me to say from here ;)

I've been looking at the manual lift section in the manual
It almost looks like they're lifting with the handle on the right side of the seat and I'm trying to use the one on the left

That short piece has a stop welded on the back side. The stop permits the linkage to flex, raising the deck, if you hit something.

Photos of the hand lift, hand lift linkage. Basically photos of the entire left tractor side of the lift mechanism. I think that is where your problem is.

Edit: Recently posted the dimensions of the center piece on the linkage. Tomorrow I should have the opportunity to measure up the remaining two linkage parts.

My neighbor came over and he's much cleverer than me.
We took the top piece off the linkage and bolted that to the piece that raises and lowers.

That raised the deck a good bit and it cut my lawn like my lawnmower.
Almost.

Hopefully, that won't do any harm
That means there is only the one bolt but we tried it out after adjusting the belts.

Now, to get a bigger pulley and I think it will do a great job.

Thanks to everybody for the help.
It helped me to find and, hopefully, correct the problem.
If I didn't cause a problem with my fix

Removing the middle piece takes the float out of the deck. If you high center the deck on something you WILL break or bend parts. With the dogleg it will raise up and flex and drop back into position. You would be better off to drill a hole or two farther down the upper end of the long straight piece that connects directly to the deck. You'll raise the deck and keep the float. As I mentioned in an earlier post I had the same problem when putting a deck on a hand lift that had raised and lowered fine with hydraulics. I believe it's something to do with the geometry of the hand lift rockshaft. I have never taken the time to measure and compare the two. I seem to remember a difference in measurements and something not fitting a hand lift that fits on hydraulics. The bolt hole size or placement is slightly different. Maybe somebody will know what I'm talking about and can expand on it.

Thanks for that info, Scrivet.
I wouldn't have thought of that

We looked at the middle piece but ended up talking the top piece off.
That's why I only have one bolt holding the deck on.

Hoping that won't mess anything up.
Here's what I have now

Well, I got the deck working and the belt adjusted.
Bought a new, larger pulley and adapter.
Had a dickens of a time getting it on the shaft.

Probably a bad thing, in hindsight.
No matter how much grease it wouldn't go so I ended up pounding it on using a 2X4 to hit against to drive it on.

I can see you all shaking your heads as I write this.

Well, it worked great, mowed well.
For a little bit.
Then I started getting some noise from the PTO and the shifter would lock up and not allow me to shift.
I thought it was the PTO shifter guide because it wouldn't stay straight.
Fixed that a couple times and then the shifter just was loose and wouldn't engage and the shaft would pull almost out of the housing

I took the back plate off but was a little stuck there.
There is a flat metal washer type thing on the shaft that is pretty mangled.

Been trying to look at resources I had downloaded from here a while back to see if I can figure it out.
Fortunately, I have a clever neighbor who may be able to fix me up.

I am looking at the Belt Pulley and PTO Attachments doc which has some decent drawings and the complete shop manual which doesn't seem to be pertinent.
Are there better resources I can look at?

Thank you

I thought I had Betsy ready to mow.
When I pulled the PTO, the grease shield was mangled.
Got one and replaced it and everything also seemed ok from what I could tell.

My neighbor came and put it back together.
it was a little bit interesting getting the clutch lever into the clutch on the shaft.

I mowed for a little bit and then it started grinding .
It almost seemed to jump out of gear.

If I hold the lever back with my hands it seems to stop grinding.
It only needs a little bit of pressure to stay in gear
