Need a new battery.

Postby LRiddle » Mon Jun 20, 2016 4:17 pm

I'm sure this has been debated before, along with motor oil and gas types, but what kinds of 6v batteries are you guys using? I need to get a new one in the coming week and I don't want to buy junk, but I also don't want to spend $150 either.

You can get a Duracell battery at Sams Club for $80. They are decent batteries.

If you live near a Rural King store, you can pick up a good battery for around $45.

Stop by your local auto parts stores. Ask who makes their store brand batteries.

I have had good luck with NAPA batteries, if you have them in your locality. You'll need a Group 19L or Group 1.

I've had good performance from batteries sold at Federated affiliated auto parts stores. Asked one time who made their batteries and was give the name of a major manufacturer.

Recommend local auto parts store(s). Keep the receipt for battery purchase. There is a warranty. Local folks will be happy to honor the warranty. They want a satisfied customer.

On a side note, my tractor is 12 volt and the guy I bought it from had just replaced the battery but now the front cover doesn't fit. He said it was the only one they had at the auto parts store he got it from. I think if I dremel the sides it may fit.

Anyone else had this issue with replacement batteries? Just thinking this may be an issue for 6 volt replacement also.

You won't have an issue if you get a 19L, assuming your battery box is standard size.

Pretty sure my box is original. My battery is IB75DT. Has extra plastic on both sides that support a clamp or strap. I think if I shave those off it may fit.

Thanks, I will know what to get when I need a new one or feel like getting the box shut.

...so do you need a 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery?

Great to hear. And thanks, I thought you had your answer and my question was some what related to the title so..

What is the proper size 12 volt to fit in the battery box?
