She is alive...

Postby superman » Fri Jul 01, 2016 7:19 am

Well I have been working on my '52 Cub for the past three years off and on. I decided to get serious this summer and finish her up.
Below is a link to video of her running again... just had to share. Ignore that stupid look on my face, that's just me very happy she is running again.
And thanks to everyone here and the great resources on this site for helping me along the way.

I will post before and after pictures once I get her all buttoned up again... thanks again.

Congratulations, and don't worry about the look on your face, you should have seen me when my first one fired up around 30 years ago. I bought a non running cub in the fall, carried it a piece at a time into my walk in basement, and spent the winter going over everything. Come spring I carried the parts outside and put it together. I was really surprised when it fired up on the first try.

Hi,
The Cub looks really Good in your video. It's hard to tell listening to the sound, but I think the engine timing might be late. You should check the timing with a timing light, if you didn't.
Late timing will make it have less power than it should have. :)

I've seen repairs that were made by brazing the pinhole or even a break. Stan

Glen you mentioned checking my timing with a light. Does it take a special light for 6 volt positive ground system?

Hi,
The timing light I have is made for 12 volts, so it works really dim on 6V.
Barnyard has said hook it up to a 12 V battery, then it works better, brighter. I agree. Then it can be negative ground.
Mine will work on 6V, but I can only see it in a sort of dark building, or at the end of the day, near dark.
For positive ground, I have to hook mine up backwards, with the positive clip grounded. I'm not sure if they are all made to do that, it's your choice to try it, I guess. :)
