Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
About 2 years ago I bought a Cub Leveling and Grader Blade. This week I decided to mount it on my 49 Cub and discovered a few problems. First I am only interested in mounting it under the tractor since we don’t have much snow in south Alabama. I haven’t even considered the pieces for front mounting.
The first picture below shows everything I got with the blade. I think what I have is a combination of an early model blade and a later model blade. The second picture shows only the parts that I have for mid mounting. In the parts manual the boomerang is called the bellcrank extension. The early model blade had a bellcrank extension that was straight rather than boomerang shaped and I do not have this piece. The third picture shows the Boomerang and the TC rockshaft that it is supposed to bolt onto.
How do you mount the Boomerang to the TC rockshaft? The manual shows it bolting on but the rockshaft has the pin where one of the bolts should go and this pin is welded in on my 48, 49 and 59 Cubs. This pin is the connection point for the lifting rods on the 144 Cultivator frame.

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
Thanks Don.,
The hole in the end of my Boomerang is 5/8" and the pin is 3/4". To make it fit I will need to drill out the hole on the boomerang to something slightly larger than 3/4". I didn't want to screw up my Boomerang if there was another way. I guess it is possible that this is a homemade Boomerang and whoever made it got the hole the wrong size. So I guess I need to make the hole large enough for the pin to fit through.

I'd say that the 3/4" pin you show was a Previous Owner modification to fit a "wallered out" hole in his equipment. Ideal repair would be to take out the 3/4" pin and put in a 5/8' pin. But you're idea of enlarging the hole on the boomerang is easier and far less expensive if you have to bring it to a machine shop. Don't worry about the boomerang. If needed, someone in the future can bush it back down to 5/8 if they absolutely have to.

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
I measured the pin on 4 Cubs and they were all 3/4" so I belive that my pin is correct and that my Boomerang has the wrong size hole. Can someone with an original boomerang measure the hole and post the size? I can just drill it slightly over 0.75" but I don't know if the pin is supposed to provide support and be a snug fit or if any size hole over 3/4" is ok.

This may be one of those things that are slightly different between a hand lift and a hydraulic lift rocker arm. I would personally hold off on drilling it bigger for a little while.

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
I just went out and measured mine, it's 3/4"
I think Scrivet may be on to something hand lift vs hydraulic, wow if it took a 3/4 pin for the hand lift that would mean there were some tough men to out lift hydraulics.
Bruce.

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
I am a little slow sometimes ( well maybe more than sometimes) but I am not following the bit about the hand lift. Are you saying that the boomerang is ( may be) different for the hand lift? Even if that is true I don't plan on switching to a hand lift. The boomerang that I have won't fit on the my rocker arm. Is there another way to make it work other than drilling out the hole so that the pin will fit?

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
There is a drawing of the BELLCRANK EXTENSION in Rudi's manuals but I understand that site is down.
How do I use the mirrored site to get to the following which I copied from a previous post?
...unless you feel like doing some fabricating and have or able to get the required materials/tools. There are drawings of the bellcrank extension here: cleancomputes.com/Cub/Sketches%20or%20Plans/%5CCub%5CSketches%20or%20Plans%5CDrawings-Sketches-Pictures%5CE%20John%20Puckett%5CBell%20Crank%20Extension%20Sketch%5Cindex.html
Re: Rudi's manuals is something wrong with the site?
FYI: You may also utilize our mirrored site until Rudi can get his server back online: http://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.clea ... s.com/Cub/
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
Yes. The rocker arm on the hand lift is slightly different than a rocker arm on a hydraulic unit. The boomerang would have to be slightly different to match. I seem to remember the bolt holes are spaced slightly different on a hand lift than on a hydraulic unit. You wouldn't need to change to a hand lift, just get the correct boomerang. Someone with a hand lift might buy/swap you for yours if indeed that is what it is.Clownfish wrote:I am a little slow sometimes ( well maybe more than sometimes) but I am not following the bit about the hand lift. Glenn, Apparently the mirrored site won't open the implement sketches. At least it won't for me.

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
Maybe I'm not seeing the total picture here but if you want to preserve the original boomerang, I would consider using it for a pattern and make a new one from a piece of plate, drill the holes, etc the size and location that you want and keep the original one for future use. You might even pick up a piece of steel from a scrap/recycle place or the scrap pile of a welding shop. Stan

Re: Cub Leveling and Grader Blade
Bob,
That is the same problem I had. Glad to know it isn't just me.
The operators manual for the 54A Leveling andGrader Blade says that it is designed to fit either the TC OR MANUAL lift system and it says "It is not necessary to add or rearrange any parts to have the blade assembly fit either lifting system."
All of the holes in the boomerang seem to line up with holes in the rocker arm. The only problem is that pin is too big for the hole. If the size of the hole isn't critical I can drill it. If it should be a close fit for strength I will probably have to take it to a machine shop. When I saw that there was a drawing of the boomerang on Rudi's server I thought I could see the size of the hole but since I can't get that drawing open it would be great if someone could measure the hole that fits over the pin on their boomerang.

Glen, I just went out and checked mine. If the pin were not missing, it would be 3/4" and would fit the 3/4" hole in the boomerang. I have no idea why yours has a smaller hole but I would not hesitate to drill it to fit.
