Was told by the seller, who is pretty savvy using cubs, that the two-way plow I bought did not seem to be "going down" like it should...not deep.
He showed me worn share points, which I thought were the only possible source of a lack of cutting ability...if rounded would tend to skate off the ground.
Once I get this setup going, I'll study the adjustment issue. But if it does come down to a worn share, can that edge be rebuilt with the correct hard face electrode? With a piece of tool steel?
Not always concerned with saving money, more a problem of wanting to understand and try it myself....

Can't buy replacement plow parts, so the option is to repair, or buy a plow, in better condition. I've rebuilt several, using leaf spring steel, and I've hard surfaced a few.

Re: Hard face restoration on two-way plow
It's not so much the sharpness, but the shape and size of the share that gives it the correct digging angle to pull itself into the ground.
Just hard surfacing the shares won't help much. You need to add material, usually a lot of it, to get the share back to its original shape.
I've seen quite a few plows with leaf springs welded on to the share. Looks odd but functional.
One place to check is with a company called Ploworx. They probably don't have parts for the left hand plow but maybe something that'll work for the right.

Matt, I grind the patch to resemble a new point. Ive seen some that are just a hunk of leaf spring welded on. Some of them, work well.

Re: Hard face restoration on two-way plow
I used to own a good 2 plow JD. I just scab welded with SS rod a piece of spring stock about 2" x 4" overlapping the old point about half way. Never shaped the ends of new piece at all. Didn't look all that nice, but made a world of difference in how it took the ground.

I would like to see a picture of one repaired like this.

Thanks, Guys.
