Thanks

Re: Check Brake linings
Hi,
Welcome to the website. IH didn't really make it too easy to inspect the brake lining.
You can judge some by how the brakes work, do they work good, or work bad.
You can try to look in where the brake rod goes in the final drive unit with a light, if it's oily the transmission oil level might be too high, from someone overfilling it, or rain water has gotten in the trans and raised the oil level, and oil is leaking out the seals onto the brakes.
If the trans oil is at the right level, it probably needs to be taken apart and the seals replaced, and the lining cleaned or replaced, if they are oily.
Here is a new brake band from TM Tractor. Look at where the rivets are, and then look at your brake through the hole, you might be able to see on the brake drum surface if the rivets have been rubbing on the drum, the marks will be in 2 lines, if they show. I'm not sure if they show.
Taking it apart to look at them is the best way, if you want to do the work involved.
