Yours would be a 1950 unless that cast piece was swapped out. Do you see any white paint on your Cub? During a run in 1950 Cubs were painted white and were sent out to dealership as demonstrator tractors. They were later repainted and sold.

I'd check the casting codes,on multiple parts, to determine age. As Chris mentioned, a single part could have been replaced.

I have the same issue with mine except I have run all cast dates on motor bell housing trans and axle tube all are cast with either 8.6 T through 8.8 T so it looks to be a 1950 but the grill on it according to everyone at a tractor show is off a 58 it has a 4 bar horizontal grill with decals not the international emblem so I'm at a loss does it have the wrong grill or am I nuts.

Someone, maybe Barnyard, posted that the 4 bar grill was the only one offered as a replacement by the dealers... sometime later after the newer models came out. So.... yours could have a replacement grill. Stan

Hi,
Maybe you can remove the red or whatever color paint from the plate with some paint thinner on a rag, and see what is under the paint. Try not to remove the original black on the plate, if it is still there. :)

Same issue here only the plate is not on the Cub at all. I can see the holes where it was riveted or screwed on. Sorry this is the only picture I have right know, just bought it last night and haven't gotten it home yet? It does have a white front "grill".
Also what size of trailer would I need, axel lb rating?

Thanks

Tractor weighs around 1,500 to 3,000 depending on options. Trailer size 5' X 10' would be plenty although it would probably fit on a 5' X 8" ,trailer axle, 5,000 to be safe

CDD:

No draw bar on the pictured tractor. See if it and the mounting brackets are still around.

If any implements go with the tractor, down load the implement(s) manual, top of page, get all of the parts.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Agree with Eugene. The rear cultivators look complete, can't tell what's on the front. They might be removed and close by so be sure to ask. Stan

Hi,
Welcome to the website CDD. If the grille is white, someone has changed the color probably. The Cub has the 1st style of hood, 1947-1953. They had a red wire mesh grille. The hood could have been replaced too, can't tell without knowing the year.
Too bad the serial number plate is gone. Maybe you can get some casting numbers and figure out the year it is, if you want to.
Here are pics from the Cub parts book, showing the hood and grille. Also from TM Tractor showing the casting code locations.
The 4th page is from a Cub owner's manual, and shows where the engine serial number is. The number is not the same as the tractor serial number, but close, unless the engine has been replaced. :)

All good information, working on getting a trailer so I can get it home and start cleaning and working on it. Read some posts on what to do first when I get it home, fluids, filters, degrease etc? Can most filters and seals be purchased at local auto stores NAPA, Auto Zone, Advance Auto? :coffee:

Yes. Living in a rural area, the local auto parts stores stock filters and tune up parts for the Cub. Seals may not be in stock but can usually be ordered and available the next day.

You will get great service from the advertisers on this board.

I haven't had a problem with Cub parts obtained from local auto parts stores. Some folks report problems with parts obtained from big box AG supply stores.

One thing that seems to help the parts people is to tell them that the cub has the IH C60 engine. Many of the engine parts (and Other parts as well) are the same no matter what year.
