electronic ignition for magneto

Postby inairam » Thu Aug 11, 2016 6:57 am

I found companied converting magnetos for motorcycles to electronic ignition. http://www.sussexmotorcycles.com/thorspark.html

Is there a technical reason the J4 can not be converted to electronic ignition?
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

If you can find a CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) from the 1960's using the vehicles stock ignition points as the trigger, you could utilize it with a magneto. A number of folks installed this type CDI in their vehicles and swore by them.

Biggest problem is that the magneto's rotor is driven with a pinion gear. I don't think there is a practical way to install any of the CDI systems on the market in a J4 magneto.
I have an excuse. CRS.
