Probably supposed to be red. It would look nice painted white.

If you are trying to match original '59 colors,I think the L-54 blade should be red, same as a Cub-54A. Then you should loose the blue paint can and paint those parts red.

I doubt it. Videodoc specified "its 59 loboy. trying to stay true to the scheme." I took it he was asking about the original scheme. If he is trying to stay true to some scheme he is making up, he wouldn't need to be asking.

Jim,

I understand about the paint issue. I respect your knowledge :!:

I was commenting on a post by Mr. GW where he was disappointed with the way people confuse loose and lose.
I did find another post where he made reference to the problem:

A wise man once said

"It's your Cub, paint it how YOU want it " :!:

Seeing as there were so many customers say from the US Department of Highways which painted their Cubs and implements USDoH Yellow, to CN Rail which used CN Orange, to the US Marines, Navy, Army etc. so you can imagine what colours those were, not to mention all the large commercial customers who had their Cubs and implements painted in Company liveries....

Sooo, saying that, I would assume that their really is no really truly correct colour scheme.

However, when IH send equipment to the dealers there were specific colours called out for different models, years, upgrades etc.

Generally accepted would be:
IH-50 Blue (1150B) for the earlier McCormick-Deering Blades.
IH-50 (2150) Red for the Cub-54, L-54 and Cub-54A blades.
Whitecap White for the Demonstrators
901/902 White for the regualr blades painted white in the 60's and 70's
and of course again the
IH-2150 Red for every other occassion.

I think that about sums it up....

btw, thanks to the combined knowledge of George, Jim, BD, Carl and a bunch of others, the above is what I have gleaned from their comments/expertise and my own reading on the matter.

However, it is just meine zwei pfennig's worth.

Yep, I'd say you did!

Lesson I learned: When it's time to repaint something, I'll save myself a whole lot of heartache by skipping the can of worms and just open my favorite can of paint!

I hope the lid is lose and I don't set it aside somewhere and loose it :D
