Seafoaming through the manifold

Postby ShawnAgne » Sat Sep 03, 2016 10:51 pm

Saw the post where a person made a siphon to vaccum in seafoam through the manifold. I tried that and WOW, talk about white smoke, was rather fun/cool. However was wondering is all that smoke crap in the engine or is that just the seafoam itself. Was just wondering as to know when to stop.

The smoke is the seafoam itself. You can never really be sure how much was enough without using a bore-scope to check the condition of your cylinder internals.

Yep, the white smoke is the seafoam. If you find black soot on the cowl, or on the ground if you have an under slung exhaust, that would be the deposits from inside the engine. Like feeding little bits of kerosene, or diesel into the intake, it doesn't burn as cleanly as the vaporized gasoline. Some of it will make it past the exhaust valves and burn in the exhaust manifold or leave the engine as a vapor without ever igniting.

I just add it to the crankcase oil and in the gas tank. Let it work on its own. Sea foam it a upper lube. I did fog engines back in the late 60's. When sea foam starts working the idle rpms will pick up. Seafoam is loosing stuck rings, freeing up sticky valves, lubing the valve seats and reseating the rings. It's not a complete engine rebuild in a can but it will get a tired engine running decent again.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

The best use of the seafoarm is to let is sit in the cylinders by dropping it in the spark plug holes. Fogging it through the manifold is mixing it at high concentration in the fuel. Do add it to fuel but add it to the tank and per instructions. I have also had luck adding it to the oil again per the instructions.

How much do you put in each cylinder?

an ounce or so. You want to cover the top and have it flow over the edge so the seafoam sits on the rings to breaks up the deposits. I have done it with the head off and with it on. It is best if you can rotate the engine away from TDC on all cylinders. I do it a few times letting the engine sit a few days each time rotating the engine by hand before the next time. you may want to change the oil if you put a lot of seafoam in.

I do not understand how the seafoam would have time to do anything other than the maybe the valves & piston top with the "nitro injection method". Plus you can not control fuel/ seafoam mixture. In the gas tank you get cleaning of the fuel system, carb, valves, & piston top. Seafoam in the oil pan gives you cleaning of the rings, valve stems and other internals.

A person once told me he used that port to use a water /baking soda mixture to clean the valves and pistons. I have not tried it.
