IH 901 Paint
I know this is probably a long shot, but has anyone found an off-the-shelf rattle can paint that matches up to the old IH 901 color? Thanks.

I've used Ace Rust Stop Almond Gloss. Don't know if that's what you're looking for or not. It's an off-white (cream color) and what I used on my 1948 Cub and my McCormick 100 manure spreader. See links below.

Re: IH 901 Paint
Stanton,
Thanks. That looks like a pretty close match to IH 935 white. 901 is the color used on the early Cub Cadets and late 50's, early 60's Cubs and letter series Farmalls. It has a little bit of a green cast to it. I need it for a 57 Cub. Check out the color chips at the bottom of the link.

Re: IH 901 Paint
Sorry. My suggestion was based closer to the 935 color. I don't have a match for 901. Unfortunately, when you get into the off-whites, choices in spray cans are very limited. If you wanted to have someone mix some paint matched to a color chip, you could do that, but you'd have to have spray equipment (air comp and gun). But, you already know that.
Wish you success. Let us know what you end up doing...

Re: IH 901 Paint
Don,
I've run into this a few times when restoring the early Cub Cadets, and I've decided that the 935 white is just about as close as you can get to the 901. There was a Cub Cadet parts site that used to mix it up in spray cans, and I bought a few for a project, then ran out before I finished, so the wheels were painted 901 white already and I had to finish the mower deck. I ended up using Iron Guard 935 white and you really couldn't tell the difference unless you REALLY looked closely at it in the right kind of light. I'm not so sure that those paint samples on the Cub Cadet site are all that correct either, and I know that they're from a really old source, so who knows how accurate they really are.
I do know that the 902 white used from 1967 to 1969 is significantly lighter/brighter white than the 935 white, but the last Cub Cadt 125 I restored, I used 935 white and it looked fine.
This is the last one I did, with 935 White. This photo is a bit darker but it's recent.
his is an earlier 124 that I restored. On this tractor, the hood is the original paint, the wheels were painted with new 902 white from the source I mentioned above, and the mower deck was painted with 935 white. As you can see, it's hard to tell the difference.

Re: IH 901 Paint
If this is for the white field under the badging on the side of the hood for a 1957 I think that is supposed to be a decal not paint - if you are going for correctness.
I plan on painting mine, but when I looked into it for my 1957 I did find that it was a decal.
I did find the decal online once but I can not find it now. It may have been at http://maplehunterdecalstexas.com/ or http://www.maplehunterdecalsindiana.com/ but I do not see it.

Paul B wrote:I had a color sample from a can of NOS IH 901 white computer matched at my local Dupont store, and in Nason Ful-Cryl II acrylic enamel, it came up as 1969 Ford New Lime, Nason # 4976ID A. It may not be exact, but when the Cub Cadets I used it on are viewed side by side, it is hard to tell which hood's are painted with NOS IH 901 white and which are Nason's New Lime white.
That "ID A" at the end of the Nason number may not be a required part of the number, but it prints out on the invoice form the store I use as part of the Item number.

Don, is it the same as the demonstrator white? If so, Rob in NH, has the number.

Re: IH 901 Paint
Thanks for all the good responses so far.
Not the same color, Eddie.
By way of a little clarification here, The original white behind the emblems was, in fact, a decal as inairam says. TM Tractor Parts carried the decal for a while. But since the change in ownership, no longer does. Tim Talleur (tst) now has the decals, but I haven't seen one to do a color comparison. My plan is to use the decals in that particular location. I am aware that IH 901 can be crossed and mixed in any one of several automotive paint manufacturer's products. However, that would be prohibitively expensive, since all I need the paint for is the 11 bar grille. That's why I'm looking for something very close in an off-the-shelf rattle can.

Re: IH 901 Paint
Don, Valspar did have that paint marked IH white in spray bombs and quarts when they were sold at tractor supply, I still have some, I do have those decals, they are almost a light beige/ faded grey color,I was lucky to find a nos set still in the box to match them, I always thought they were more white until I found them, here are a couple pics of the factory decals, hard to tell in the pics

Did a "Valspar Tractor spray paint" on Google search. Hit their website. http://www.valsparpaint.com/en/find-the-right-product/exterior/spray-paint-1/tractor-and-implement-enamel.html#/colors
Does the Cub Cad Beige come close? Looks like Naylor's Hardware, Cluss Lumber, Lowe's and Ace Hardware all can order it for you (doubt they stock it).

Re: IH 901 Paint
At one time, I had what I thought was a pretty good match in a Krylon paint. I think it was antique white, or maybe winter white. Right now, I have a can of Rustoleum almond for such work. I'm not sure how well any of them match. But if you have an original sample to match, you might check them.

If you have a large Ace Hardware close check out their paints. A big store carries many brands and can mix colors too if a match can't be found on shelf.
