unusual? metal tag on cub?

Postby smallfarm » Fri Sep 30, 2016 7:15 pm

Saw this on craig's list.

Ignore the price and plow hookup and look at picture #6. There is a tag on the cub that reads

This Machine is the Property of International Harvester Co. Engineering Dept. Chicago ILL

I never heard of such a tag. To the best of y limited knowledge this is not a demo tractor.

I have or know nothing about this cub or tag but I do have an interesting,to some maybe, story about International's engineering department. Back in the '50's my Dad quit the printing business to open his own children's amusement park in Dundee Il. My great grandfather had quit the family glass blowing business in the 1800's and had rides he rented out and actually ended up in Riverview Park in Chicago running concessions with my grandfather. My Dad had approached Max McGraw's son in law who managed his properties to put a couple of rides to accompany an existing go cart track, mini golf and batting cages. Mr Eichler suggested to Dad why just not start his own place,he would rent the property kitty corner to the other operation. To start a place from scratch was alot of work starting with heavy earth moving. So happened Mr McGraw was friends with the McCormick's and they had done all the earth moving and lake building at Max McGraw's Wildlife Foundation. It was all done as away to "test" the equipment. International came out and did all the ground work for the park as R&D at no cost to Dad. After seeing this I'd bet that equipment had those tags on them too. My Dad ended up buying a larger piece of property in 1960 for a bigger park with more rides and that is when he bought his first Cub which we still have. The property became valuable as time went on so when he sold it,I at 17 became the last generation in the amusement business.

That is an interesting tag on that Lo-Boy.
I would buy it myself but not for what he is asking. He'd have to cut it to a third of the asking price.
Cool tag but in my head it doesn't triple the price.
