Contest time, why hard to start.

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Wed Oct 05, 2016 7:53 pm

This is a 47 cub with a Wagner loader on it, so it is so much fun to work on. Over time is has been getting progressively harder to start, but since it is used so seldom I have been putting up with it. Still on 6 volts, but starter spins over fairly fast, J4 magneto, Zenith carb. Problem is that it will hit once and kick starter out. I can usually start it by moving throttle lever to full speed, pulling out choke, and spinning it over a few rounds and when I release choke it normally starts, though it does spit and miss a little like flooded, but once started runs great. With time over the last few years it has been getting harder to get started. I did fix it today after 3 afternoons of head scratching and testing. Your challenge is not to just decide where the problem was, carb., magneto, starter, etc., but also what part in it was causing the problem. If no one has it by tomorrow evening I will give a clue.

The prize is a rather unique never worn cap from the 2009 Cubarama

Impulse spring broke.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Idle tube in carb. Running full throttle bypassed it but delivered a rich volume. :?:
Bleed circuit obstructed perhaps.
