oil holes in hood

Postby Jerry's cub » Wed Nov 02, 2016 11:42 pm

I have looked at a lot of cub pictures they all have had holes for oiling the generator, mine has no holes and looking at under side I can't see where they have been filled. Did some not have the holes for the generator oiling?

A few after the hood change for '54/'55. I don't think we've narrowed down just how long they were like that. Since yours is a '55, not surprising the holes are missing.

Okay tnx Jim since I have only owned my cub for a little over a month and have never had the hood off I wonder if my generator needs oiling, I have felt up in there and can't feel any holes. SO I am wondering why they stopped and then started again because I have seen pictures of ones newer than mine with the holes.

The holes reappeared in later 55 models.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

To answer your question about the generator needing lube, the answer is most likely. It probably hasn't been lubed in decades and could stand a couple drops in each oil cup.

If you have an oil can with a flexible spout you can fish it up in there from underneath to put a couple drops in each oil cup. You could also use a small can of that 3-in-1 oil.

Okay Matt I am sure your right I may have to remove the hood so I can find the oil cups. I'm sure they are at each end of the armature.

Please post your serial number and casting dates so we can input your tractors in the database to help support and follow this research.

Hi,
Here is what Raymond Durban says in the cub database about the hood holes.
The 193658 is the serial number. That was the first 1956 Cub. :)

1956 193658 First of month, Jan-56 (oil holes added back to the hood after this…)
