Governor stuck

Postby razerface » Wed Nov 16, 2016 9:56 pm

1949 dirty cub. The throttle will not move. The govenor seems frozen. Is it going to be junk, or are they fixable?

oil the armon the governor, you can gently tap on it but not to much, they can break, give it a few days for the oil to work

Hi,
Here is a pic of the arm that could be stuck, the end of the shaft the arm is on is where the cotter key is. It is in by the fan. You might be able to see it from the left side with a light. Use some penetrating oil at both ends of the arm base. Oil the other throttle connections too.
The governor is still usable if the linkage on the outside of the governor is all that is stuck, and the governor is not wornout.
The governor can be repaired if something is wrong with it. :)

I've had better success with a penetrating type lubricant like PB Blaster or KROL. Just be patient and give it time to soak and as Tim said, tap it GENTLY in the direction of movement after a couple of days soaking. Once you get it to move you might have to remove the cotter and lever, then sand the rust away and coat it with neversieze. The lever MUST move freely on the shaft for the throttle/governor to work as it should.

I think i understand now. The shaft is stationary and the arm rotates around it, working the governor. I am really going to work on linkage, not the govenor. I am oiling it all up now.

Great help. Throttle moves now after many baths of pb blaster everywhere.
