Allowable loads on drawbar

Postby kjoiner » Sat Nov 19, 2016 1:28 pm

Hello,

I had an idea to mount a receiver socket to my draw bar so I can attach things like the receiver carrier shown in the picutre. The carrier is rated for 200lb but I would like to know the allowable load on the drawbar since the carrier is further out. Here is a link to the mockup I have so far. The receiver tube is about 4 feet long but was the same price as a piece 18" long.

I've used one on a lo-boy, to transport firewood. i used 4 banana boxes, that fit in the carrier, filled with wood, with no issues.

2 wheeled trailer will give you more hauling weight and volume capacity.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Hello,

I plan to use the carrier to haul coolers etc. when I go to tractor shows. Sooner or later someone will want a quick ride in the carrier and I want to make sure I don't overload the drawbar. I've got a small trailer I'm cleaning up for hauling as well. The main nice point of the receiver hitch is that I can swap stuff around quickly - plus I'm looking for a welding project. :)

A couple hundred pounds won't be any issue, just don't go nuts. I haul fire wood, tools and deer with mine. It's handy.

That's a good idea! Easy to back up too!

I have a trailer and I've used the basket to move firewood as well.
While the trailer definitely holds more it's a pain to back up to the wood cradle at the house so I prefer the cubs basket or my A's carryall.

Hello

I fabricated a hitch receiver and bolted it up today. I notched the end of the tube so it bears underneath the red cross tube.

Does the carrier rock any or does the reciever hitch hold the carrier pretty steady? This is the same type of set-up used for Jeeps, isn't it?

Nicely done. If someone wanted it more stable, they could use two receivers, and two support tubes under the platform. I did that years and years ago when a customer wanted a motorcycle carrier mounted crossways at the rear of his motor home.

Hello

The carrier does rock but I did not have the pin in it at the time. I wanted to get it done because in taking the Cub to Tractors on the Track at the Atlanta Motorsport Park this Saturday.
