What are some recommended 12v battery part numbers that will work with a Cub?

Re: 12v Battery Fit
To quote many I found in a quick search... A Type 26R 12 volt battery will fit very nicely in an original size battery box. With that type you can search various sources.
Good luck,
Good luck,

Re: 12v Battery Fit
The 26R is correct. I bought two value brand (cheap) batteries of that number from Walmart.
One for my cub, the other for my A which is also a perfect fit.
I normally hook up a battery tender but haven't bothered with it. In all temps no issues and almost a year now.

Walmart is out of stock. Do any other battery models work?

That is a size designation, not a Walmart number. Any auto parts store should have it, or be able to get it.

BatteriesPlus has it for $68, the Walmart battery is $48. I would prefer to save a few bucks.

Are the two batteries the same as far a CCA/Warranty? You've heard the saying, compare apples to apples.

Re: 12v Battery Fit
If the battery is cheap enough and I can get better than two years out of it I don't sweat the warranty. At less than $50 it's a roll of the dice. Hasn't bit me yet. It's not for any of our vehicles and won't leave us stranded.
I bought a battery for my lawn tractor two years back for $20, half what NAPA wanted. It's still going strong.
A note on availability, my walmart said they were out of stock by web site and rep over the phone. I went anyway and found 3 on the shelf. Happens a lot. People put to much faith in what they see on a computer screen.

I bought a 26 at Walmart, lower 15CCA and connection reversed but it will do the job. Thanks Lt. Mike

That's what the R indicates, reversed connections.
I've had good luck with the big 420cca lawn mower batteries, myself. Plenty of oomph to start a Cub, and fit in the box with room to spare.

I threw a lawn & garden battery in my “worker” LoBoy a couple years ago when I was having charging issues (12V conversion)…. Gary Dotson to the rescue, charging issues resolved and I just left the smaller battery in there, fires right up every time and I think it may have 360 CCA!
