Not forcing the plow into the ground. You are pushing the drawbar towards the ground, which changes the digging angle of the plow until it digs deeper and levels back out. You do need to force the drawbar down momentarily.

If you don't think the depth adjuster is necessary, then get you a plow and put a chain on it and try it in hard ground. The plow will only slide alone the top of the ground and in general make a mess. If you don't have the depth adjuster that goes on the right hand side of your tractor, don't waste your time. If the chain idea had worked, then the tractor would have come out with one on it.
