noise in final drive on left side

Postby housebg » Tue Apr 18, 2017 5:25 pm

I have some noise in the left side final drive but this should not be , I just changed it from a different tractor not to loud but louder than I think it should be. What do you think the noise could be. How noisy are the cubs normally . The reason I change it was the noise

Hi,
You didn't say what the noise is, is it a grinding, or banging, or clunking, etc.
The final drives I have seen run quietly.
Could it be transmission noise, the 2 upper bearings on the clutch shaft, in the trans get noisy sometimes, then there is noise when you run the engine with the tractor in neutral with the shaft turning. :)

If it's a clunk, it could be loose wheel center, to rim, bolts, loosened.

it seems to be a grinding only when under power when rolling it is not bad. I used hydraulic oil because no one had less than five gallon container of gear oil ,could this be the problem. The wheel seamed tight . No noise when in neutral Noise seems about the same in all gears

mine was making a grinding noise. It turned out the brake hub lock bolt was loose and the hub had moved inboard, allowing it to grind on housing,

Hi,
I have seen that sometimes just the brake lining rubbing on the brake drum as it runs will make strange noises, like a scraping sound. :)
