The other day I added transmission fluid to my 67 Loboy. Today I've got a ton of fluid leaking out near the right rear wheel.
First question....is the fluid in the transmission shared with the rear end.
Second....how many seals am I looking at replacing?

Re: Leaking fluids
1st Question: What did you add for "transmission fluid" and how much? Did you gauge the level by removing the plug? Yes it's a common reservoir. You might have overfilled it and it uses 80-90 gear oil. The final drive housings are different and are filled to the level indicated by the plug. 2nd Question: depends on if you are doing one side or both.

Re: Leaking fluids
By '67 the transmissions were probably factory filled with Hy-Tran. Either that or gear oil can be used, each with their own advantages.

Re: Leaking fluids
I filled it with a Hy-Tran equivalent. Yes, I removed the plug right by the gear shift and added it that way.

That is the fill plug. The real question is whether you used the level plug to know when it was full. That plug is low near the front of the left side, sort of behind the left brake rod. There are illustrations and explanations in the Owner's Manual.

You have over-filled it. Drain it and put only 3.5 pints back in and your leaks will likely disappear.

Re: Leaking fluids
Hi,
There are 3 plugs in the transmission, the fill plug, by the gear shifter, the level plug, low on the left side of the trans, and the drain plug is on the bottom of the trans, you have to get under the platform to see it. The owner's manual shows them.
If it needs new seals, there are 4, basically a seal on each side of the 2 brake drums.
But like they said above, if the oil is at the level of the level plug, it might not leak out the seals.
