Postby Hammer63 » Sat May 06, 2017 4:47 pm

I have acquired what I believe to be a 1963 cub It has the square nose with a white grill the serial number is 2228xxJ on the plate. first what does the J stand for and I was sanding the hood to repaint it and ran across white paint my question is this a 1963 and is this the year they changed the paint color and should it be yellow and white not the red that it is

The J stands for rockford clutch. I thought it was 64 that the yellow and white came out but i'm not really sure.

Yes it is a 1963. The early Square nose Cubs were red. The paint color changed in 1964.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Hi,
Here are pages from the Cub parts manual showing some of the different styles of Cubs with the serial numbers when they were made.
The first square front hood cubs were Farmall Cubs.
The 1st yellow and white International Cub was serial number 224705, the pics show.
It should say the tractor model on the serial number plate, if it's readable.
I have read on here that they did make a few of the square nose Farmall Cubs with a white hood, some of the other guys know more about that than I do. If your hood is white under the other paint, it probably had a white hood, but sometimes it's hard to know if the hood, or other parts are the original. :)
