Fertilizer side dresser question.

Postby Ohiowoodchuck » Sat Jun 10, 2017 10:57 pm

New cub owner here and new member. I just bought a what I believe is a 1950 cub with cultivators and the side dresser fertilizer system. The hopper is missing and I am curious what model of hoppers will fit on this. It has the bracket there which it looks like the hopper would pivot or hinge into place it also has the shaft and gears on it. I'm just really interested on what all I need to get this working. Everything else is there and turns freely. I bought this to cultivate my large sweet corn patch and thought I could get this working instead of having to throw fertilizer by hand. That is if my four year old will quit arguing with me about the small tractor is his. Thanks for having me here.

Hi,
Welcome to the website.
Here are some manuals telling about the Cub.
First is a 1950 Cub owner's manual, the experts on here say that people should read it, if you never have. It has lots of info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication.

I'm guessing as to what cultivator and fertilizer attachment the Cub has, with no pictures of them. You can look at the manuals and see if they are what you have, there are pics in the manuals. There are other attachments for the Cub, you might have something else.

2nd is the Cub 144 cultivator owner's manual.
3rd is a page from a fertilizer attachment owner's manual showing the hopper. :)

Thanks for the reply and the manuals. It won't let post pictures. It keeps saying photo to large. Any help with getting them to upload. I got a iPhone.

I believe the IH fertilizer hoppers are pretty universal. The major difference on fit concerns hopper sizes, if they interfere with each other or another part of the machine. Unfortunately, fertilizer really raises heck with the hoppers and many of them rusted beyond use. Being from 1950, your original hopper was galvanized. There is a later style that has a fiberglass hopper. Agri Supply has a replacement unit that has a plastic hopper. I believe it is designed like the fiberglass version. Maybe someone else has experience with the Agri Supply hopper and can comment on fit and function.

By the way, the fix for your photo upload problem is to reduce the size of your pictures before uploading. I don't know how you do that on an iPhone, but there must be a way.

I also use an iPhone. I downloaded an app called Simple Resize. Real easy to use.

Thanks for the tips. I seen the one from agri supply. Does it have the spinner and everything in it. That's my main concern and it doesn't say. I believe everything else is there. I just need the hopper to sit down on it and the clamp bolt to the frame of the spreader. What I have on the cub is kinda like the old John Deere planters when you flip the seed can out of the road if that makes sense. I'll get the app and get some pictures.

I presume it is a complete unit ready to stick on and run. Everything that should show in the picture of the bottom is there. You can contact Agri Supply and they should be able to confirm what is included.

Thanks for the help on this fellows. I got all my sweet corn planted tonight. So if it comes up I'll get one coming in the mail and give it a whirl.

You will love your Cub for cultivating and side dressing your corn. I've been using same setup for the last 3 years.
