Valspar red paint?

Postby DickB » Sat Jun 17, 2017 5:08 am

How does Valspar 4431-01 IH Red Tractor and Implement Paint compare to IH-Case dealer paint? The Cub is painted with the IH-Case paint and there are some nicks, abrasions, new add-ons and such that could use some paint. The tractor is not a Trailer Queen but nevertheless a close match is desired. And how does this paint compare, quality-wise, to the IH-Case dealer paint? I seem to recall paying almost $100/gal. for the dealer's paint and now I see that a gal. of the Valspar is about $35. Comments please.

And I see there's a spray can for touch ups and such. Comments on it? Valspar 5339-01 IH Red Tractor and Implement Spray Paint - 12 oz. for about $8. Might be just the thing for present if color is close to IH-Case.

Not sure where you're getting your pricing information, but a gallon of CaseIH 2150 is about $60 and the spray cans are $9.75. Stick with the Iron Gard.

Don, Just running on rusty memory. Called local IH-Case dealer and indeed you are correct. I was attempting to avoid a road trip but now think it worth it. Thanks for de-rusting my memory where all things used to cost $100 or a nickel....

IH also has it in qts for less than $20, the iron guard from IH is good paint, it is also made by Valspar

I have heard some people rave about Valspar. This surprised me, because the time we tried some to repaint our wood fence, it was horrible. Very little pigment. It was more like whitewash.
Granted, this was 10 years ago or more and I'm sure the formulation for metal is different than their latex exterior house paint, but I have no plans to give them another try any time soon.

there are different types of valspar for different application. Their restoration series paint is an alkyd enamel that works well and is comparable with other alkyd enamels.
