burning oil

Postby john2189 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 10:06 am

Can my cub burn oil and not have blue smoke out the exhaust pipe? It loses a qt of oil in two mowings which is about 6 hours of running full throttle. It does leave a small puddle of oil on the floor about 2" in diameter towards the front of the engine. nothing in the area of the rear main seal.

Thanks
John

If it leaves a puddle that big in the floor after mowing then it's a pretty good sign that it's blowing some out while mowing. Front main seal is my guess but it could be the oil pan gasket towards the front. If it was burning it then you should see some smoke out the exhaust.

Front seal may be leaking. Any smoke out the dipstick area? If not, it probably isn't burning it. (Chipmaker types faster than I do!)

I will check the pan gasket and front seal, dont notice any smoke or fumes out of the dipstick cap

The oil usage is low enough that you may not see blue haze exhaust. You probably just have leaks..
Aviation gasket sealer will be your friend when you take on the oil pan.....
