ammeter

56 Loboy: 12V, 1 wire system installed with solenoid and key start, starts up great, runs great...however...the ammeter is on the negative side when running. I followed the wiring diagram from previous post and it showed that the ammeter should have the aleternator and the lead to the Bat terminal on the key start off of the negative side of the ammeter. I have a wire going back to the positive terminal on the battery from the positive side of the ammeter. I followed the instruction. Is it simply that the wires on the ammeter need to be reversed?

You check with a volt meter across the battery terminals while running, right?

Had the volt meter set to 20V and it was like .47V

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story.

Is this an analog meter with multiple scales? I think (hope?) you are looking at the wrong scale. I would expect it to be somewhere in the range of 11-12V if not charging or 13-14V if charging.

Also, make sure the meter is set to 20V DC not AC.

Can you post a picture of the meter reading?

No need.

Take a reading of battery voltage with engine off, everything off. Start engine, 2/3 throttle, again take a voltage reading.
I have an excuse. CRS.

My meter must be bad...never goes above .5V and gets real hot. Anyway, I switched the wires at the suggestion of Chipmaker and that did the trick...shows charging now, thank you.
