rockshaft meaning

Often wondered how they named some of the parts of tractors, ie: ROCKSHAFT. Because we raise deck to miss rocks maybe ?

A rockshaft, by definition, is a shaft that does not rotate comletely around, but in a partial arc....i.e. it "rocks". Here is what the dictionary says:
