Cub Carburettor

Postby Ian D » Tue Jun 27, 2017 5:30 pm

Hi - Before I send my carburetor away to be checked out - any views please
I have asked before, some time ago
Solex VBN26 Carburetor on my French 1955 Cub
Complete nut and bolt restoration of this tractor
Its up and running - runs sweet
Idles fine - revs increase OK up to max if I move the hand lever slowly
If move the hand lever quickly to increase revs it chokes the engine and it stops
Same happens if I try to set off and the governor increases the revs
Its like its not getting enough fuel/air at once to change from idle to high revs quickly?
Do you think the problem is inside the carburetor?
Just welcome any suggestions before I incur and further expenses
Carburetor is spotless - been ultrasonically cleaned (twice)
Both jets clear too
Any advice welcomed

Ian, I've never seen a Solex carb, but are either of the jets adjustable? Any chance you have an inline gas filter that might be restricting flow?

Timing light, check the ignition at low idle, medium idle, then at high idle. Thinking that the advance may be sticking or stuck.

Use to have two Solex carburetors on my 190SL Mercedes. That was 50 years ago.
I have an excuse. CRS.
