What did I blow?

Postby BOB K. » Sat Oct 01, 2005 9:05 pm

My 65 Cub has been smoking a little white smoke for awhile now. I was using it the other day and bounced the front end over a curb. It all of a sudden started smoking real bad white smoke. I have out about 1hour on it today and still smokes juat as bad. Runs fine but bad smoke. Do you think the head gasket blew?

Smell

Postby allenlook » Sun Oct 02, 2005 8:12 am

Sounds like it, sorry to hear it!

Does the smoke have a "sweet" smell to it? Coolant has a distinctive smell even when it's blowing out the exhaust port.

No its not coolant, its definetly oil. I won't have time to look at it for a week or two.

Bob, white smoke usually indicates a water source. Oil smoke is typically bluish and rich running produces black smoke.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

It is oil. You can smell the oil. It is not the sweet smell of coolant. I have had a coolanr problem and a oil problem in the past on another trctor. This is oil for sure. I had a chance to pull the plugs and they are getting oil fould. I will try a compression test when I get a chance.

Bob, I think the hard jar from dropping off of the curb, probably spashed oil out of your oil bath air filter down into your carb. pull the air cleaner hose off you carb, & see if there's oil there if so just clean up the hose & metal tube going to the air filter & that should take care of the smoking.
