Which rear rim do I need

Postby lliberto » Fri Jun 30, 2017 10:51 am

One of the rear rims on my 47 Cub is rotted out. I want to make sure I purchase the proper replacement rim so I opened up the TC-37A Parts Catalog Farmall Cub 5-2-49 -17B OCR and to my surprise there are 3 different rims listed. I've attached a screenshot of the listing below. Anyway, I probably should already know this, but how do I determine which of the 3 I need to replace mine?

Thanks

351428R91 handles 8.3-24 tires which is the most common size these days. The other two are for the narrow tires of earlier years.

Keep in mind, you can no longer find new wheels that will take the original square head bolts.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

I have been amazed how many times I started a project or was about to start a project and people were asking the same questions I was about to ask or stuff I did not think about yet. great source.

I have a 9.5 x 24 turf tire on that rim. you can try whatever this guy has on his loboy https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/grd/6153879435.html Been for sale for 18 months or more. Called him once. Price was higher a year ago.

There is pretty much only one rim available new for a Cub nowadays, which you can find by searching "farmall cub rear rim." It is a 7x24 rim. Don't worry about the 7 number because rims are generally one size narrower than the tire you put on them. 8.3x24 fits a 7" wide rim.

You can get them for about $140 shipped off Ebay.

What's the difference between part number 351428R91, 114717C1 and 351428R29? I can find both 114717C1 and 351428R29 but not 351428R91. Also, if I can't use the original square head bolts do I just use something of similar size from the hardware store?

Thanks

If you need one rim to go with another one you already have, measure the other one. Buy one the same width. Width is measured from the inside of one bead to the inside of the other bead.

Hi,
The difference in the part numbers is the width of the rims.
351428R91 is the 7" wide rim, used with 8x24 or 8.3x24 tires, or wider, since it is the widest rim a Farmall Cub had.
It says on the right in the parts pic you posted the sizes of the old tires.
Like Barnyard said, they had narrower sizes in the past.
The new rims are different where they attach to the wheel center, they use different bolts.
Here is a listing at TM Tractor showing a new rim, and the bolts it uses. It shows how to measure the width in the 3rd pic from the bottom. :)

Anybody know if the rim in this link http://www.ebay.com/itm/114717C1-Tracto ... SwuMZZEiFR will fit the tire in the picture? The tire is marked as an 8.3 X 24.

It should fit. Why not contact JP and get a good used original for about half the cost of that on E-bay. At least the wheels would then match.
