Cub sickle mower wrist pin threads stripped

Postby Matt Kirsch » Sat Jul 22, 2017 1:57 pm

I've got a sickle mower mule drive with bad bushings and a sickle mower mule drive with a stripped wrist pin. Original plan was to swap shafts between mule drives but the shaft on the one with bad bushings is chowdered. It will take out the bushings in the good drive in short order.

How is the wrist pin secured in the flywheel? Press for or threaded? How would one replace the wrist pin?

Hi,
I don't know how the pitman pin is held in, might be pressed in.
The flywheel, or weight, is pressed onto the shaft, and has a key and keyway. You could take them to a press, and have the flywheels changed on the shafts, if needed, if the pitman pins won't come out. :)

Many IH mower wrist pins are driven in then headed over. I don't have a reference handy but think the Cub mower is the same.

I've found vague references to that, but I've given it the heat-n-beat four times and it's not budging.

Maybe it will help to take a look at the document this post points at. Go to about page 23.
