Battery box bolt size

Postby radioguy41 » Mon Jul 24, 2017 7:37 am

I finally got all the corroded bolts out that held in the battery box. The ones I removed were four 3/8 x 16. The parts manual lists 3/8 x 16 hex-hd cap "screws" but indicates only three, not four. Misprint or is something going on I'm missing? Perhaps those three are for the pan only and they don't list the box retaining bolts? On the page for the box itself they don't list the retaining bolts at all. It just seems kind of odd that they wouldn't be listed correctly somewhere in the manual.

If you look at the box itself on Case IH website under #6 battery box it list 3/8" X 3/4" bolts but it only list 2, not 4. I would put four back in it and roll on.
God is good, all the time!

Those 3 screws you found in the Superstructure Section were for the platform, 2 of which also hold the battery box. The 2 that Chipmaker refers to are listed under the Electrical Section and are only for the battery box.

The proper name for that fastener is "Hex Head Cap Screw". Often abbreviated HHCS. We call 'em "bolts", because when we think of screws, we think of screwdrivers. But these "screws" use a 9/16" wrench.
So, yeah, you're looking for "bolts", but they used the proper nomenclature.
