Fast hitch with sickle bar.

Postby Huntemcd » Sun Jul 30, 2017 9:39 pm

I have a 4ft sickle bar. Can I put my fast hitch on and still be able to use the sickle bar. What model would the 4ft sickle bar be. Not sure what year the sickle bar is. My cub is a 1960 with vertical muffler. I had my fast hitch on before and took it off for a flail mower. Just wondering if I can do this. And what are some tips to putting the hitch back on. Any tips will help thanks.

Yes it can be done. You'll have to disconnect the FH rockshaft and tie it off at its highest point so it doesn't interfere with belt. There is a holdup bar for doing so. Place an ad and someone might have one. Model of mower is a cub 22

I said rockshaft, but technically you're holding up the pull bar assembly with the rockshaft. I don't have a pic, but there will be some here on the forum somewhere. Also, there was a different bracket that attaches to final drive for fast hitch cub. Not absolutely necessary that you have it, but it will mount straighter if you do

Hi,
The Cub 22 mowers were made in 4 1/2 feet and 5 feet cutter bar lengths.
Below is a Cub 22 mower owner's manual.
The manual is for 3 different mowers for 3 different models of IH tractors. The installation info starts on page 14.
If yours looks like the upper pic in post that Don posted, you can change it so it looks like the lower pic, for use with a Fast Hitch.
If it has no spacer welded at the top hole, it might work with no spacers and the Fast Hitch.

The top spacer in Don's pic was for use with the drawbar.

For the Fast Hitch, IH had a spacer for the rear bracket that goes at the lower bolt, it looks like the spacer welded on in the pic at the post that Don posted. You can make a spacer from a small square of metal about the same size and thickness as the one welded on at the upper hole.
It is not welded on, just hold it behind the hole as you put the bolt in. You need bolts the right length too.
If you change the rear mower bracket, it fits like in the pic below. This one has the spacers at the top and bottom bolt holes. Hope that's not confusing. :)

That does make a little more sense with the manual. And I can make that thing to hold up the sickle bar easily. I still can't picture how the fh is held up when using the sickle bar.

Here's a video I made about installing a Cub-22 on my Fast-Hitch equipped Cub. Maybe it'll help...

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the video. You have a nice setup. My sickle bar sounds like it has a knocking in the back. It has play in the powershaft. How can I fix that.
