Touch Control Drain Plug 75 Cub

Postby Roshambo » Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:26 am

Hey y'all,

I took my touch control filler plug off today and a nasty milkshake came out so I want to change the fluid.

I found the drain plug but it doesn't take a typical socket wrench square plug... what do I need to purchase to remove that plug?

Also should I loosen up the low point adjustment on the touch lever so it's beyond where the normal low point is in using my mower or leave it where it is?

Thanks.

You should be able to remove it with a small adjustable (Crescent) wrench.

Hm.. It's a round plug with a square hole that looks as if it takes a socket wrench.

Adjustable cresent on round plug? I guess I could vice grip it but that doesn't sound good

Stick a 1/4" or 3/8" extension in square hole and then put your ratchet on it.

Tried the 1/4 and it wouldn't fit. I bought a 3/8 and it didn't look like it would fit either. I'll check again.

It may be packed with dirt, take a small screwdriver and dig around in it.

Nope not even close. It's smaller than a 3/8 but bigger than 1/4

Take a grinder to an old 3/8" extension until it fits.

Are you sure you're looking at the drain plug?

Hi,
Below is a page from the 1975 Cub owner's manual showing where the drain plug is for the Touch Control.
IH's pic is a square headed plug, that sticks out, they use a crescent wrench, or open end wrench.
There is a larger plug behind the dash, with a hollow square head, that would use a tool like you are describing above. Do not take that plug out, it won't drain the whole system.

Below is a pic from TM Tractor showing the hollow plug at the rear, and the drain plug about in the center at the bottom. :)

Hi,
Glad you found the right plug.
The one at the rear just plugs a passage, there are others in the unit also. :)
