193 Plow Moldboard Bolts

Postby ShawnAgne » Fri Aug 11, 2017 1:18 pm

I looked in the manual and didn't see it but what type of bolt is used to attach the Moldboard to the frame?

I believe you will find it is called a "plow bolt", which has an elliptical head. Sometimes available at TSC or AG Supply (Agri South).

Hi,
Some of the plows had special bolts with a small lug that stuck out, under the head. They have discussed them on here before, you might have to ask at a Case IH dealer about those. :)

Guys thank you very much, quick search for "Plow Bolt" and I think I found what I'm needing.

Next question, I cut all of mine off and pitched any idea on size?

The easiest way, if the old bolts are still in the bottom of your trash bin, is to dig them out and measure them, no matter how deep in the trash they may be. If it is too late for that, next best is to measure the holes to figure it out. They are probably all 3/8 diameter. Lengths were mostly between 1" and 1-1/2" in 1/8 increments. Be sure to allow for however much wear there is on the face of the moldboard. Third option gives exact size if you can do it. Determine what plow bottom you have. If really lucky, it may still have a stamped steel tag on the back. If not, go to PO-6 (PDF manuals/plow parts). Look for one or more part numbers found on parts of the plow bottom until you find the right bottom. Find the moldboard entry, from the part number search or by knowing the bottom type, and look at the fastener listing directly under it. Using the moldboard part number in your search will work best as you will have the bolt listing as soon as you find the part number.

Note, never throw an old part away until you have the replacement part in hand, even if it is a sawed or twisted off bolt!

Yes the parts all have the stampings in the back. What/where is PO-6?

Upper left of this page, click on Quick Links, then click on PDF Manuals, then click on Plow Parts, then click on PO-6.

Peter covered PO-6. What are the numbers in the back of your moldboard?

Interesting. The only place I see that number is the shin of a Replaceable Shin Plow Chief (RSPC). It was made from '54 to '59 or '60. It isn't unusual on a 194 plow but not so much on a 193. The copy of PO-6 in the PDF manuals is just old enough to not have that bottom. It is in (at least some revisions) of the Cub implement catalog CBI-3A but the copy of it on the PDF server doesn't have the plow section. If it is anywhere in the PDF manuals, I don't know where.

Back to your original question. If it is in fact an RSPC bottom, these parts are held on by #3 plow bolts, 3/8 diameter, these lengths:
moldboard: (3) 1", (3) 1-1/8", (1) 1-1/2". I believe this includes the 2 bolts for the moldboard extension.
shin: (2) 1-1/8".
share: (3) 1-1/8".
You can probably use 1-1/4 bolts for the 1-1/8 and just have a little sticking out of the nuts.

The share point uses different hardware depending on the type point. It could use a 1/2 x 2 special plow and a 7/16 x 1-1/2 square head or 1/2 x 7/8 hex head.

The frog fill-in plate takes a 3/8 x 1-1/4 #3 plow.

The landside takes (2) 7/16 #3 plow bolts, lengths 1-1/4 and 2-3/4.
