PO converted to 12V kept the 6V coil - has a resistor wired in just ahead of the coil! Is that to cut the 12V down to 6 before it get s to the coil?? Put a 6V battery in it and wired direct (old resistor was dead?) it runs like a champ. Alternator does not show charge - am I going to have to go back to a 12V and replace the resistor in the circuit?? Dusty B
PS - used the E tank for the first time in a long time - 12 hours and this was the result!

Yes, the resister is to step it down. The resister I used was from TS and it was less than $10. As to why your alternator isn't exciting and charging I will leave to others more knowledgeable...but I know min one wire takes half speed to excite with the one wire.

Re: Another 12 V conversion
Alternator. Inexpensive to take core to auto parts store and purchase a one wire 12 volt alternator. The Delco clone will fit under the Cub's hood.
The Chrysler ballast resister is inexpensive. You will need the resister or purchase a 12 volt coil with internal resistor. Chrysler ballast resistor is much cheaper.
My suggestion is to use the 12 volt system. Cheaper than trying to convert back to a generator and regulator.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Another 12 V conversion
Use cheapo 12v no external resistor coil and run it straight on 12v....our conversion has been running that way since the 70's...still running generator and original starter too...

Re: Another 12 V conversion
Hi,
I think you are saying you put a 6 volt battery on the Cub, to run it, and it has a 12 volt alternator. I have never put a 6 volt battery in something that has a 12 volt alt.
It might not charge for that reason.
I would try a 12 volt battery in it before buying a new alt, and see if it charges.
It would need a resistor at the coil to use the 6 volt coil.
