Yep, that big cornfield across my fence will be a cloud of dust shortly.

Haven't seen any combines in the fields, yet. Getting close to start of harvest.

One neighbor is going to pick ear corn, crib, grind/mill into cattle feed. Guessing from looking at the field it will be another month before the corn is ready to be picked.

Farmers may be getting an other cutting of hay, getting close. Depends on the weather.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Peanuts harvested at my place yesterday. Hay baled (rolled) and hauled away today.

Making second cutting of hay here now. Soybeans just starting to turn yellow. Corn, not even close.

We have had third hay cutting around us so far. With luck the farmers will have a fourth.

No corn cut in my area yet and all places have had at least 2 cuttings of hay, some may get in a third...

Large (for New England) dairy farm has been cutting corn for the past couple of weeks. They plant 2,000 acres. Fields that I've driven by have corn standing at least 8 or 9 feet tall.
They currently have 1,800 head with plans to expand to 3,000.

They also do haylage. 3 cuts this year.

Beans have lost most of their leaves but are not yet ready. Corn still a ways out. Hay behind my house has been cut three times but would not expect a fourth. Cutting after Oct 1 generally not done. Vern

Neighbor started chopping corn yesterday. The cows will enjoy the green candy.

As for hay, the farmers here in the Mitt are usually glad to get a third cutting. (Not all years provide a third cutting) If anyone is still cutting alfalfa this late in the year, there is a risk that it may not grow enough nutrients to keep the roots alive through a long winter.

24 Sep 17. Neighbor has mowed and windrowed hay. It's either his 3rd or 4th cutting. Pretty thin but we are in an exceptionally dry area.

Neighbor gets $4- per square bale for mixed grass hay.
