Hi all,
I began my Cub restoration this weekend and started with the final drives....took out the left final drive differential shaft and it has a preset good score on it ..wanted to ask if this might cause a problem in the future and if I should replace prior to reassembly? Thank you

Re: Final Drive Axle Scored
I am seeing a groove where the differetnial seal runs, which can be smoved, also some marks where the break drum mounts, which will not affect anything.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Final Drive Axle Scored
I just rebuilt my finals as well. The new seals ended up riding on a slightly different location than originally. No issues yet. Yours looks fine to me.

Hi,
The pic is not very big, if the areas where the seals run are rough, I would use some 400 grit sandpaper, by hand, and smooth them up. Wipe off all sanding with a clean rag. The smoother the better. There should not be a groove where the seals run. The new seal might run in a little bit different place on the shaft than the old seal did.

There definitely is a groove. Will do a little wet sanding, thanks.

If it feels notable after sanding you might consider using a speedy sleeve. There made by CR and they slip down over shaft with a friction fit. Have the part number out in my shop. If u need it send me a pm. For the price of them it’s better than tearing apart again when oil gets on the brakes and or damaging a new paint job. Good luck

Another option, a used axle, to replace the worn one.
