Cub: Need Two Engine Cooling Related Gaskets

Postby Gary1959 » Mon Oct 09, 2017 10:47 am

I'm doing a minor overhaul of my 1951 Cub and need two gaskets (see pictures). So far, I can't find them and don't have the part numbers for them.

I'd appreciate help identifying the part number or a tip on where I can buy these. Thanks

Go to your local auto parts store and get some gasket material and make them yourself or buy a whole kit. The kit can be bought at NAPA, O'Reilly auto etc. It's a Fel-Pro kit.

Those gaskets are very easy to make (small ball peen hammer avainst the gasket held flat on the water inlet ends). As the guys said, assorted gasket material is available at most auto parts or hardware stores, and great to have on hand.

An empty wheaties box works too in a pinch. Or Cheerios. Or Lucky Charms. Or Cap'n Crunch, or Grape Nuts.

I have also used thin cereal box type cardboard material way back in the day (must be uncorrigated). I did purchase gasket material and make these gaskets for my Cub rebuild project plus a number of others. Make a half dozen or so gaskets and you will pay for a set of hole punches (for bolt holes) and thin gasket material.

I'm with the other suggesting to purchase gasket material from you auto parts store. Cut/make your own gaskets. I keep 3 different gasket materials on hand. For the cost of one gasket you can purchase a whole sheet and still have enough material left for other gaskets.

For oil/gear lub., complicated gasket areas, I use RTV, purchased from auto parts store. The RTV is usually cheaper and faster to obtain than the gasket.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I'll add my 2 cents for making your own gaskets. 1 sheet is pretty cheap and lasts a long time. Not worth it to wait on shipping and the extra cost when they're that easy to do. There's probably a youtube video on how to do it if you're unsure.
