Circle Cub Data

Postby Super A » Sun Oct 15, 2017 11:13 am

I've been curious about the early '47 circle Cubs. Of course, the biggest visual difference is the decals. Is there anything else special about them? Here's what I (think) I know, tell me if I am right:

-Circle Cub decals (McCormick-Deering Farmall on hood, CUB on doglegs)
-First 3500 or so tractors
-Fine mesh grille
-IHC marked oil and amp gauges
-Q casting codes (what's the earliest Q code you've ever seen?)
-No touch control (from factory, may have been converted later)

Are there other differences?
Do magneto serial numbers run close to tractor numbers?
Do engine/tractor serial number ever match?
Wasn't the clutch linkage different on early Cubs?
Were most shipped on 8.3-24 tires or smaller?

I'm interested to see what those of you with these early Cubs have to say!

Hi,
The early Cubs had the internal clutch adjustment, until serial number 32228. Then the external adjustment was used. Here is a page from the Cub parts manual showing the 2 systems.

You could look at Raymond Durban's database for some of the things in your list. It is at Cub Database on the page below. It's probably easier to see on a computer, and you can enlarge the pages at the top, after it loads in. :)

My 1947 Farmall Cub is serial # 2116. The engine serial number matches that.

Our '47 is serial # 1447. The earliest casting date on it is the head. 3-28-Q. The magneto serial # is 1177.
